Two Are Better Than One

We all know that for the most part, writing is a solitary journey. We spend endless hours at the computer. Penning our words on paper. Doing research. Sending out queries. Along with a host of other items on our to-do list.

Sometimes we can get so focused on the task at hand that we forget we need other people to help us be our best. Writing friends. Critique buddies. Beta readers. Editors. We can even come to believe we are better on our own.

Andrew Carnegie once said, “It marks a big step in your development when you come to realize that other people can help you do a better job than you could do alone.”

The Bible says, “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble” (Ecclesiastes 4:9 NLT).

Jesus sent His disciples out in twos. No one had to go it alone. This provided encouragement, accountability, and a blending together of strengths.

The Word for You Today says, “We each have blind spots and need someone with 20/20 vision in those areas to help us see things in the right way.”

Many times when I was stuck on a project—and even when I thought I had nailed it—all I needed was a fresh pair of eyes to give me a new or different perspective.

As Christian writers, we all have the same goal: to glorify Him and bless others with our words. Don’t feel like you have to go it alone. Two (or more) are always better than one.

Do you have people in your life who have helped you in your writing journey? If you would love to sing their praises, we would love for you to share with us.
