A Business Meeting with God
By Diana Leagh Matthews
As a Christian writer, I often spend time praying over a project before, during, and after writing and editing. But recently, several organizations that I’m a member of stressed the importance of having a business meeting with God.
This was a new concept
for me. At first it felt a little strange, and I wondered if I was holding the
meeting correctly.
As I spend time with
the Lord, I find myself drawing closer to Him. Sometimes the answers don’t come
right away, but I continue to seek and search for the Lord’s direction and
leading.
So, what is a business
meeting with God?
It’s taking the time to
be still and spend time with Him. I begin with praise and adoration, move to
time in His Word, pray for others, and then pray over my ministry. This is the
time to seek His will for current commitments and ask about future endeavors. Is
this the right time? Should I accept this offer?
Then there are the more
honest prayers. Why am I stuck, Lord? Why do doors keep closing? What is
your will for my writing? How do you want me to serve you?
In partnering with the
Lord, I’m also laying myself bare before Him. There are times when I don’t
understand His answer or don’t hear anything at all. Yet I keep seeking. In the
meantime, He often has work to do in my life and heart. Eventually, the answers
come and usually when they do, it is nothing like I expected.
Sometimes it’s while
playing with the dog or cooking or some other tasks that I hear the answer in
my soul.
Do you have business meetings with the Lord? If the answer is no, why not give it a try.

I love having conversations with God about my writing and about everything else, too. :-) I've never thought of those talks as business meetings. I have a note on my computer that says "PRAY FIRST". :-) Thank you for this inspirational message.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great reminder. Glad I could help you think of these conversations in a different way.
DeleteI love your concrete example of what a "business meeting" with God might look like. No matter what we call it, praying over our writing is essential. The structure you follow is helpful to me as well as biblical. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Yes, prayer is so essential.
