Necessary Edits
By Debra DuPree Williams
Many writers began the year with goals stored
away in mind and heart. Some made lists or even added a to-do list in their
journals. But have you stuck to that?
I’ll be the first to admit I struggle with
organization and staying focused. This year, I’ll not only be editing my
writing, but I’ll be editing those things that keep me from achieving my goals.
To that end, I’ll be doing three things to
free up more time for writing:
- First, my husband is taking over my email accounts. Currently, he has cleaned out my business account and will start on my personal one next. Just having him do this has been a huge time-saver.
- Next up, a friend is going to give hubby and me lessons in scheduling posts across all social media. Then my husband will take over management of all my social media accounts. If you don’t know how to schedule posts, do yourself a favor and find a friend to teach you.
- Finally, I’m determined to stick to a dedicated writing schedule. I’ve never had one. Yes, I know. Shameful. I wrote when I could eke out an hour or two here, thirty minutes there. There was a time when my most productive writing was done in the wee morning hours. That simply isn’t possible these days.
My word for the year is focus. The
Bible tells us all things are possible with God (Matthew 19:26). I know if I
keep my eyes turned to Him, I can do this and so can you.
What are your goals for 2022?
Blessings, y’all.

Love these strategies! I am reorganizing things to make my writing a priority and not a side dish! This WILL BE the year I finish my book! (I only have three or four more waiting in line... oy. Vey. )
ReplyDeleteKelly, I'm so glad you're making your writing a priority. None of us would finish our books without some good time management. Cheering you on!
DeleteI think my resolution is to have a husband like yours! 🤣
ReplyDeleteTracy, I'll see if he's available for hire! LOL! He's pretty good. I'll tell him you said this.
